Cesare Dandini studied to become a painter with Cristofano Allori, Domenico Passignano, and Francesco Curradi, posing as a model for the latter, as is relayed by Baldinucci. By the 1630s, he was working for several important Florentine patrons, including Lorenzo de’ Medici. Dandini’s style was one of great refinement, and his dramatically coloured and elegantly crafted compositions were carefully calibrated to appeal to his sophisticated courtly audience.
