A luminary Italian photographer, Gabriele Basilico devoted his career to capturing cities and industrial landscapes across Europe for which he received countless accolades. Born in 1944, Basilico trained as an architect and graduated from Politecnico di Milano in 1973. Basilico documented urban landscapes for private and public institutions, and their varying respective purposes such as city planning, journalism, or governmental purposes. Although categorized as a documentary photographer, Basilico recognized photography as a medium capable of serving different contexts that can transcend between the literal and figurative.
