Born in 1940, Ettore Spalletti was an important figure in post-War Italian art, and was affiliated with Italian Minimalism and Arte Povera movements. However, he developed a singular style and body of work that exceeded any particular movement. Spalletti explores geometry and color, and incorporates the use of simple materials in understated ways that point to the sublime. In his minimal, geometric forms which are often painted in monochrome colors, Spalletti’s work explores classical elements of Italian art history while incorporating the post-Modern use of painting, light, and space.
