Description
A French designer living in Paris, Hervé van der Straeten has always asserted his individuality by combining radical freedom of expression with the highest quality of production. A graduate in painting from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, hybridity, elegance and purity are the guiding principles of his approach. In 1985 he embarked on his first jewellery creations, by 1999 he had opened his gallery in rue Ferdinand Duval in the Marais and in 2004 created his own bronze and cabinet-making workshops. His furniture, lighting and objects, be they unique or limited-edition pieces, have convinced the world’s most important collectors and interior designers to rely on him.

Hervé van der Straeten also brings his exceptional expertise in product design to luxury brands: he created the iconic J’adore perfume bottle for Dior and conceived the Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss lipstick. He also designed the Excess collection for the Cristalleries de Saint Louis and the Miroir ice bucket which he designed for Ruinart. In addition, he has created furniture for the Roger Vivier boutiques. The recipient of numerous prizes and distinctions, his ateliers earned the designation of “Living Heritage Company” from the Ministry of Culture in 2007. In 2008, he was made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2012 he became a member of the highly prestigious Comité Colbert. The official supplier of furniture and decorative objects to the French State has acquired several of his pieces and two of his creations are on display at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. His work is also exhibited in numerous galleries around the world, including the Flore Gallery in Belgium, the Karsten Greve Gallery in Switzerland and the Ralph Pucci Gallery in New-York.
